How to Clean and Maintain Modin LVP Floors

Modin is 100% waterproof, tough, and simple to care for. With a simple routine, your floors will look great for years to come.

  • Daily cleaning: Soft-bristle broom, microfiber dust mop, or vacuum (beater bar off). Avoid: stiff bristle brushes. Vacuum w/ beater bar.
  • Wet mopping: Wax-free vinyl-safe cleaner (Bona LVP or Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate). Avoid: wax-based or "mop and shine" products. Ammonia-based cleaners.
  • Steam: Damp mop for deep cleaning. Avoid: steam mops, can dull the finish over time.
  • Rug backings: Colorfast rugs. Natural fiber (cotton, jute). Felt or foam pads. Avoid: rubber or latex backings, permanently discolor vinyl.
  • Furniture: Felt pads (min. 1") on all legs. Avoid: narrow hard casters without a chair mat.
  • Sunlight: Use drapes or blinds during peak sun hours. Avoid: prolonged direct sunlight on the same area.

Daily Cleaning

Sweep with a soft-bristle broom or microfiber dust mop. Vacuum on a hard-surface setting with the beater bar off, the beater bar can scuff the wear layer. Walk-off mats at every exterior entrance catch most of what comes in on shoes

Wet Mopping

Modin is 100% waterproof, so wet mopping is safe anytime. Use a wax-free vinyl-safe cleaner, Bona Luxury Vinyl or similar product is recommended. Skip wax-based and "mop and shine" products. They build up and leave a hazy film. No steam mops, steam won't warp the SPC core, but can dull the finish over time.

Rugs and Rug Pads

Rubber and latex backings react with vinyl and leave permanent staining. Safe choices: rugs labeled colorfast or hardwood-safe, natural fiber backings (cotton, jute), felt or foam pads, RugPadUSA's vinyl collection, or Ruggable (latex-free TPR backing, tested safe on hard surfaces). When in doubt, confirm vinyl compatibility with the manufacturer.

Prevention

Felt pads (1" minimum) on all furniture legs, replace when worn. Lift, don't drag. Use felt-padded sliders when rearranging. Wide-wheel casters or a chair mat under desk chairs. Drapes or blinds during peak sun hours, Modin's UV coating slows fading but doesn't prevent it. Rotate rugs so the floor ages evenly.

Common Questions

Can I wet mop as often as I want?

Modin is 100% waterproof and can be wet-mopped.

What if water gets under the planks?

Modin is waterproof, but trapped standing water can affect the subfloor over time. Pull up affected planks, dry the subfloor thoroughly, then reinstall.

Is vinegar safe on Modin?

Diluted white vinegar is generally safe for occasional use but isn't formulated for vinyl finishes. A purpose-made cleaner like Bona LVP is better for regular cleaning.

Are Swiffer WetJets safe?

Yes, use the standard solution, not a wood-floor formula with wax or polish

What about pet accidents?

Wipe up the spill and clean with your vinyl-safe cleaner. Modin's wear layer resists staining as long as you clean promptly.

Will sunlight fade my floors?

The UV coating slows fading significantly, but prolonged direct sunlight affects any floor. Use window treatments during peak hours and rotate rugs.
