How to Clean and Maintain Provence Natural Hardwood Floors

Provence is a UV-lacquer-finished European White Oak floor. Regular sweeping, prompt spill cleanup, and stable humidity are what keep it looking its best for decades.

Maintaining Provence properly is also a warranty requirement. The care guidelines below are directly associated with Provence warranty conditions. Damage resulting from prohibited practices is not covered.

Do:

  • Sweep or vacuum with a soft-bristle attachment or beater bar off
  • Use cleaners formulated for UV-cured acrylic or urethane hardwood
  • Wipe spills immediately with a dry or slightly damp cloth
  • Use felt pads at least 1" in diameter under furniture
  • Use non-staining, wood-floor-safe rugs and pads
  • Maintain 65°F–80°F and 35–55% RH year-round

Don't:

  • Do not use a steam mop or wet mop
  • Do not use mineral spirits, paint thinner, liquid wax, or oil soaps
  • Don't allow standing water or spills to sit
  • Do not vacuum with the beater bar on
  • Don't use rubber-backed or non-wood-safe rugs
  • Do not install over radiant heat
  • Don't apply tape or adhesive directly to the floor

Routine Cleaning

Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit before it scratches the finish. For deeper cleaning, use a cleaner formulated for UV-cured acrylic or urethane hardwood, applied to a cloth or mop head, never poured directly on the floor. Damp, not wet. 

Spills and Moisture

Wipe spills immediately. Standing water causes irreparable damage to natural wood. No steam mops or wet mops under any circumstances.  Provence is not waterproof, moisture that reaches the wood fiber can cause swelling, cupping, or gapping that cannot be repaired without replacement. 

Climate Control

Maintain 65°F–80°F and 35–55% RH year-round. Wood moves with its environment, humidity outside this range causes gapping in winter and cupping in summer. A hygrometer makes monitoring easy.

Preventative Measures

Felt pads (1" minimum) under all furniture legs. Wood-floor-safe rugs in high-traffic zones. UV-filtering window treatments slow sun fading. No tape or adhesive directly on the floor surface.

 

Common Questions

What cleaner should I use?

Any cleaner formulated for UV-cured acrylic or urethane-finished hardwood. Avoid oil soaps, liquid wax, mineral spirits, and general household cleaners.

Can Provence be refinished?

Yes. The 3–4 mm veneer is thick enough for professional sanding and refinishing. Contact us before refinishing to confirm it won't affect your warranty.
