What Is Arista Laminate Made Of?
Arista is commercial-grade laminate, featuring an AC5 wear layer and aluminum oxide finish over a water-resistant HDF core.
What Arista is Made Of
Laminate is a layered composite floor built on a high-density fiberboard (HDF) core, compressed wood fibers bonded with resin. HDF is denser and harder than the particleboard in budget laminates, offering a feel underfoot closer to real hardwood. It's highly water-resistant against spills, and our most scratch resistant floor.
- Wear Layer: AC5 (heavy commercial grade)

- Plank Size: 7.7" × 72"
- Edge Profile: Enhanced Painted Bevels
- Installation: Uniclick floating

The AC Rating System
Laminate durability is graded on the AC abrasion scale. Arista is rated AC5, most laminate at big-box retailers is AC3 or AC4.
Why These Choices Matter
- AC5 wear layer. Two grades above standard residential laminate. Passes castor chair testing with no visible changes. Utility Class 31 for low-use commercial spaces.
- Aluminum oxide finish. Level 4 scratch resistance under EN 438 testing.
- Water-resistant HDF core. 5% thickness swelling rate under NALFA testing.
- 14 mm total thickness. Most laminate runs 8–12 mm. The difference is noticeable underfoot.
- IXPE underlayment. ΔLw = 17 dB impact noise reduction. IXPE adds moisture resistance over cork.

Common Questions
Is Arista waterproof?
Water-resistant, not waterproof. Handles spills wiped up promptly. Not designed for standing water or wet-area installs. For waterproofing, Modin LVP is the better fit.
What does AC5 mean?
Heavy commercial grade, the second highest on the laminate abrasion scale. Built for entryways, kitchens, and hallways without showing wear
Is laminate the same as vinyl?
Laminate and LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) are two different flooring types. Laminate features a hardened wear layer and an HDF wood-fiber core, closer to real hardwood feel. LVP has a PVC wear layer and a stone or wood composite core, more versatile and 100% waterproof.
Is Arista safe for indoor air quality?
Yes. FloorScore Certified, CARB Compliant, passes formaldehyde testing under NALFA LF 01 3.11 and ASTM 06007, and antimicrobial testing under ASTM E 2180-18.
